This handbook starts by providing background information on the need for improved management of bamboo. It then presents detailed procedures on its propagation, field planting, tending, and maintenance of plantations. Knowledge on the utilization of bamboo is also important for its proper management.

The handbook, therefore, provides guidelines on the proper harvesting, care and treatment of this valuable resource. In order to diversify its utilization, some current and potential uses are discussed. It is anticipated that this handbook will provide information for practical use by government extension staff, NGOs, bamboo growers and users.
